Navigational traffic: serve people who are already looking for you

A branded query may mean purchasing, signing in or resolving a problem. The right destination depends on the task, not merely the presence of the brand name.

Separate expected destinations

List official website, login, application, contact, prices and troubleshooting intents. Provide clear links to functions that actually exist. A marketing page should not masquerade as a login form. Competing access routes can confuse people even when they share a brand.

Interpret channel labels cautiously

Branded search and direct traffic are not synonyms. Unlabelled links, applications and stripped parameters can produce incomplete attribution. Retain your system’s definitions and distinguish visits, people and actions. Do not add different audiences as though they were unique users.

Improve the branded answer

Keep names, products, contacts and access paths consistent. Offer support pages for recurring problems. Campaign parameters should respect the destination’s operation, and their use should be explained appropriately. Never expose personal identifiers in a public URL.

Worked example

“Brand login” needs the genuine account-access service. “Brand refund” needs a procedure and contact details. Sending both to a sales offer creates an unnecessary obstacle.
