What the 2010 page contributed
The historical blog presented an international view of search engines in June 2010. This explains the retained address. Earlier shares are not presented as current and the old image is not reused as a September 2026 chart. Market observations depend on the provider, country coverage and measurement unit.
Compare equivalent scopes
Our current table reproduces the six leading Statcounter entries for September 2026 across four territories and all platforms. A percentage of observed referrals is not a count of every query. A query-based study and a visit-based study measure different things. Even with the same provider, align platform, country and period before discussing change.
Use your own audience to decide
A dominant provider does not remove other users’ needs. Examine landing pages, countries, languages and qualified outcomes. Begin with an accessible library and consistent measurement. The table helps generate questions; it does not promise visitor numbers. Generative searches that produce no click can also be absent from referral-based measurement.

Worked example
The reviewed September 2026 Statcounter table gives Google 88.16% in France and 85.19% in the United States across all platforms. This establishes a difference within that observed scope. It cannot calculate a French website’s expected visits or an optimal budget.
