Define the research scope
Record topic, publisher, country, language and dates. On desktop Google News, search the topic or source, then use search options to narrow a phrase, date range or publisher site. The source: command described in the original 2007 post is not offered here as a guaranteed current method.
Check the publication
Open the article and record its domain, title, byline and visible date. A media group can own several titles and domains; its name alone does not define the scope. Save the article URL rather than an isolated result screenshot. Available results do not necessarily form an exhaustive inventory of the publisher’s output.
Reconstruct the events
Separate publication date, update date and the reported event. Find the primary document being cited. Two versions of a press release are not two independent confirmations. Classify each article’s contribution: original observation, interview, commentary or republication. Contradictions require examining evidence rather than counting headlines.
Maintain an evidence record
Save the claim, article, primary source, dates, agreement or contradiction and unresolved question. A paywalled text is not verified merely by its excerpt. If a document is missing, explain the uncertainty and seek another authorised access route. Retain corrections so readers understand why your conclusion changed.

Worked example
Fictional example: three publishers announce a launch “today” but publish on different dates. The worksheet finds an announcement on 12 May and a correction on 14 May. The summary separates announced launch, confirmed availability and correction instead of treating three articles as three independent proofs.
