Digital reputation: control what you make public

A professional presence does not require publishing everything. Focus on exposed information, its context and practical ways to correct mistakes.

Keep the inventory limited and respectful

Review your own public profiles and material you published. Identify obsolete contacts, contradictory biographies and unnecessary personal data in documents. Do not investigate a job applicant’s private life or build a dossier of sensitive information.

Correct information at its source

Report a factual error to the responsible publisher with a precise description. Update profiles you control. Removing a search result does not remove the original material. Keep request dates and correspondence without redistributing the information at issue.

Set a publication boundary

Separate personal and professional material where useful. Before publishing a screenshot, check names, addresses, numbers, identifiers and visible codes. Obtain appropriate permission for identifiable people. A teaching example can use clearly fictional values rather than a customer’s data.

Worked example

A dashboard screenshot can illustrate a process after names, emails and identifiers have been replaced. Obscuring the image is insufficient if the attached file still contains the same private data.
